WHILE much of Manchester was going crazy for artery-blocking, calorific chow-downs in 2014, one place we know was heading in the opposite direction.

This kind of menu is why 1847 won Cook Vegetarian’s award for Best Vegetarian Restaurant Outside London in 2014.

Food11847, formerly Bistro 1847, was quietly developing their own brand of healthy, natural vegetarian food packed with raw, foraged, wild and organic British ingredients. And the best part was, they made sure it still tasted amazing.

There’s no monk-like plainness about their food – it’s imaginative, bold, and vibrant in taste and colour. The Seven-Course Taster Menu is a case in point with its smoky flavours, strong cheeses, and bounty of unusual herbs and vegetables such as buckthorn and sea vegetable.

Food 2It’s a little bit Heston in its inventiveness, and a little bit Hugh Fearnley Whittingstall in its celebration of foraged foods. This kind of menu is why 1847 won Cook Vegetarian’s award for Best Vegetarian Restaurant Outside London in 2014.

In this competition, 1847 is giving away ten Taster Menus for two with matched wines. To be in with a chance of winning, just click the red Enter The Competition button.
