THOUSANDS of runners are already set to compete in this year’s Cancer Research UK Winter Run in Manchester on Sunday 28 February. Set to a winter theme, the 10K course will come complete with penguin parties, jet pack snow machines and polar bear hugs.

After a smash hit debut in London last year, raising around £250,000 for the charity, the fundraiser is expanding for the first time to include Manchester and Liverpool this year - and to help with the fundraising efforts, we have entry to the Manchester race to giveaway to one reader.
The 10k course is taking place around Manchester’s Etihad Stadium and will follow a soon-to-be-confirmed route taking in Manchester landmarks.
On race day, runners and spectators will be greeted by snowmen equipped with 'jetpack snow machines' blasting a snowfall over the event village for a special wintery welcome. Once the runners are in position, Nuffield Health will host a winter themed warm-up to get the blood pumping before a Snow Blast Off marking the start of run.
As if the snow machine wasn't sufficient enough for a winter theme, runners will also be able to join in with the brand new Penguin Party while on the course. Key 103 Radio will be providing the music to help keep everybody moving, while the team of penguins will be on hand to keep spirits high. To help urge runners towards the finish line, resident Polar Bears will also be offering out polar bear hugs.
Clive Sanders, Head of Events at Cancer Research UK, said: “Every day, nearly 110 people are diagnosed with cancer in the North West, so we need as many people as possible to enter the Winter Run and help give cancer the cold shoulder.
"As a New Year challenge, it’s a great opportunity for people to sign up and commit to get fit, or for more seasoned runners to boost their motivation to carry on through the cold winter months – all in aid of good cause.”
