THE Albert Square Chop House is now open, and they're inviting one lucky reader and a friend in for a complimentary dinner with wine.
If it's anything like the food and drink at the other chop houses, it's worth getting excited about. You'll choose your meal from an a la carte menu devised by group executive chef Ian Leadbetter and head chef Paul Faulkner – a kitchen duo to be reckoned with. Paul's impressive CV includes the Michelin-starred Chester Grosvenor Hotel, Piccolino, and The Modern where he trained under Bruno Loubet, former head chef for Raymond Blanc.
They were given free-reign to create a brand new a la carte menu for the Albert Square Chop House. It's classic British cooking with a modern twist – all cooked to order with fresh local ingredients.
Expect dishes such as High Peak mutton chop and braised shoulder, with celeriac, caper berries and slow-roast garlic, and Mrs Kirkham’s Lancashire cheese, potato and caramelized onion pie with cauliflower, lemon and marjoram salad.

The restaurant serving the a la carte menu is situated on the lower ground floor. Upstairs is the pub which has its own bar food menu including a selection of Chop House Classics.
The new chop house is in the grade II listed Memorial Hall on Albert Square – a landmark building that's regarded as one of the best examples of Venetian Gothic Revival architecture in the country.
Working closely with English Heritage, the chop house owners have given it a magnificent £3.5m refit. The Albert Square Chop House boasts a dining pub, an 80-cover restaurant, a private dining boardroom and a function room with state-of-the-art facilities. A boutique hotel is planned for the upper floors.
