HOW does she do it?
That’s been the question on everyone’s lips following Beyonce’s unbelievably energetic, all singing, all dancing, 12 minute performance for the Superbowl half-time show.
Well, one person with the answer is Andy Jeffries.
"Sometimes she works out for two hours a day, every day and she gives it her all, particularly ahead of a concert. She likes to get pumped before going on stage."
Andy owns Manchester private fitness studio Pro Balance on Jacksons Row just off Deansgate. He first trained Beyonce when she was on the Manchester leg of 'The Beyonce Experience' tour back in 2007 and has worked with her every time she has visited the city since.
Andy Jeffries“She's a true athlete” said Andy.
“Sometimes she works out for two hours a day, every day and she gives it her all, particularly ahead of a concert. She likes to get pumped before going on stage. I designed an all body workout for her which includes cardio and conditioning. ”
As well as Beyonce, Andy has also trained Russell Brand and various local and national TV presenters. The beauty of Andy’s studio is the fact no more than two people train in there at any one time and, as I found out, that means you can’t get away with slacking off.

Andy’s Beyonce style workout involves using your own body weight to help tone and build strength. Working round the circuit quickly, Andy is there to watch every step of the way making sure exercises are performed correctly in order to avoid injury. Push-ups, lunges, explosive squats and pull ups on the rings are all examples of the types of exercises Andy used to train Beyonce.
And if you think your lifestyle doesn’t allow time for daily exercise regimes like the stars, Andy’s thought that one through too.

Probalance now offer breakfast and lunchtime training packages, which mean city centre workers can get achieve their fitness/weight loss goals without it impinging on their working day. The sessions are slightly shorter than usual but the high intensity means goals will still be achieved. Specially designed high intensity one-to-one training packages like Beyonce’s provide a fat-burning effect up to 12 hours after training.
Andy Jeffries said: “The sessions consist of a 10-minute warm up followed by 20 minutes’ intensive full body circuit, which raises metabolism to a point where body fat continues to burn hours later when workers are back in the office. The focus is on raising metabolism and providing a full body tone.
“As we provide a one-to-one service there are no queues for equipment or busy changing areas. We provide individual changing suites with all the facilities needed to be work-ready again in minutes.”
Pro-Balance breakfast and lunchtime packages cost up to £35 per session. For further information visit www.pro-balance.co.uk or call 0161 833 4777.
