With its majestic views over Salford Quays, Pier Eight is the perfect restaurant for summer evening dining. Look out of the window at the stunning skyline as the sun sets – it's a view you won't get anywhere else.

There's just as much breath-taking drama on the plate too. Starters such as soused mackerel with apples, potatoes and red chicory or pressed confit chicken leg with pigeon breast and tomato and pearl barley chutney are beautifully presented and taste light, fresh and summery.

Main courses show a similar deftness of touch with roasted sea trout, steamed mussels, samphire and gnocchi celebrating the sea and lamb rump, faggot, boulangère potatoes, puy lentils and spinach providing its delicious earthy counterpart.

Pier Eight is located in The Lowry, making it the ideal place for pre-theatre dining but every dish sings and dances with so much flavour that you don't need to watch a musical to make it worth going.
