WITH X Factor 2012 in full swing, all of you avid fans out there may remember a certain 2010 winner, Mr Matt Cardle: the guy with the guitar.

History has so far dictated that male X Factor winners haven’t always done so well in the chart stakes (Steve Brookstein, anyone?), however, with a new album, The Fire, to be released later this month, Matt Cardle has defied the trend.

The 29-year-old singer-songwriter will be coming to Stockport on November 14 for Merseyway Shopping Centre’s annual Christmas lights switch on, and we're giving two lucky fans the chance to meet the man in question during his visit.

Thousands of shoppers and local residents are expected to turn-out, with the lights being turned on at 7pm by members of 90s pop band, Steps, followed by a special appearance from ‘Santa’ and a Christmas carol sing-along with the crowd.

Brendan Webb, centre manager at Merseyway said: “We’re thrilled to have such a fantastic line-up for this year’s Christmas Lights Switch On, and to have the opportunity to show off some of Stockport’s local talent.

“We have had a brilliant year with footfall figures increasing year on year again throughout the whole of 2012.

This competition is now closed. Congratulations to our winner Pauline Brennan.
