AFTER 40 years in business, to say that Don Giovanni is 'well established' is an understatement. The same can't be said of its cocktail lounge. Yet.

Created as part of their multi-million pound transformation, it's as enticing as the restaurant itself. The marble bar and Art Deco stylings give it elegance. While the fast-moving waiters and slow-sipping ladies make it feel very Italian: cosmopolitan, buzzy and full of life. You don't need to dine to go there – just drop in for drinks. You'll be impressed.

You might be tempted by a bottle from their well-chosen list of proseccos and champagnes. But on our visit, it was the cocktails that got our attention. They make their own syrups, garnishes and some of their liqueurs, and take their inspiration from the Italian school of cocktail making, with classics such as Bellinis, Negronis and Aperol Spritz on the menu.

We fell for the Sgroppino with its refreshing blend of Limoncello, Stoli Citron, lemon sorbet, prosecco and pomegranate, served in a champagne flute with a raspberry garnish. The Venice was a bolder choice with its intense but sweet mix of Amaretto Disaronno, raspberry, strawberry and lychee.

Enough reminiscing. Win this prize and you'll have the run of the bar menu at Don Giovanni – cocktails, champagnes, wines, beers – up to the value of £100.
