THE BBC are reporting how 'a Chinese company will be part of a group investing £800m in Manchester Airport to develop its surrounding business park'.
"We see our involvement in Airport City as an extension of the memorandum of understanding between China and the UK."
Tatton MP and Chancellor of the Exchequer, George Osborne, announced the huge sum as he started a trip to the Far East to gee up Chinese investment into the UK.
The money comes from the Beijing Construction Engineering Group (BCEG), which with the UK's Carillion Plc and the Greater Manchester Pension Fund develop the business park project tagged 'Airport City'.
The development includes offices, hotels, manufacturing firms, logistics and warehouses with the aim of creating up to 16,000 jobs.
George Osborne is reported as saying: "I think it shows that our economic plan of doing more business with China and also making sure more economic activity in Britain happens outside the City of London is working. That's good for Britain and good for British people."
And good for the burghers of adjacent Tatton a fine example of a local MP working hard for them. Seriously though this is a significant sum and an important shot in the arm for the regional economy.
For his part Mr Xing Yan, boss of BCEG said: "We see our involvement in Airport City as an extension of the memorandum of understanding between China and the UK, where we have been looking to further explore joint infrastructure opportunities for some time. To be included in such an interesting and unique development is a real honour."
