"I'M THINKING Diana Ross mixed with the ultimate journalist, Lois Lane," laughed fashion illustrator Dominic Evans.

Armed with a pencil case of ink pens and a great dose of wit, he took five minutes to craft my own personal illustration and cartoon (and it turned out fabulously, I must say).

Shoppers could choose from Dom's personal favourite slogans such as: 'fierce', 'this hair holds secrets' and 'I never go out of style'.

28-year-old Evans, also known as 'Dom and Ink', is a Manchester-based fashion illustator and published author of blogger-favourite book, Map My Style. While partial to a quiff and a Hawaiian t-shirt, I'd learn that in Manchester fashion circles he's become a bit of a style maverick.

"I've recently been featured in Glamour magazine," said Dom. "My books Map My Heart and Map My Style are now stocked in Waterstones. It's doing really well and many fashion bloggers have been loving it. "

Dom had been drafted in by Manchester Arndale to introduce their weekend shopping initiative, #TrendsIllustrated. Over the weekend (28-29 March), Exchange Court was decked out with a t-shirt style station, where shoppers who had spent over £60 could design and print their own on-trend t-shirt in minutes, using the Dom and Ink signiture designs as a guideline. Shoppers could choose from Dom's personal favourite slogans such as: 'fierce', 'this hair holds secrets' and 'I Never Go Out Of Style'. The queues filled the Arndale.

With Manchester's fashion bloggers amongst the throngs of people waiting for an orignal Dom and Ink t-shirt, it was interesting to hear what he thought about Manchester's own style identity.

"You've got your Northern Quarter hipster - we love a top knot. Then there's the Spinningfields preppy, the vintage lovers... Manchester has many great style identities. When it comes to fashion, Manchester doesn't follow the pack."
