Dual venture includes Hotel Indigo and Holiday Inn Express
Ropewalks will soon be home to a shiny new development by Molo Hotels; a joint venture hotel from Holiday Inn Express and Indigo. The dual build looks set to be the first international hotel on Duke Street, already home to Liverpool landmarks such as EPIC Aparthotel and the Duke Street Food & Drink Market.
We’re excited to be adding to the city’s growing choice of accommodation
The site on the corner of Duke Street and Suffolk Street was previously a car park, with planning permission granted by Liverpool City Council in June 2020. North West design and build firm, Truman, has now started work on the 257-room hotel project, with a large crane and boarding taking up much of the street.
Working in conjunction with Molo’s team, Truman is utilising off-site prefabricated construction methods, with a target completion date of October 2022.
Truman's managing director, David Wheeler said; “Liverpool is a city flourishing with development activity and we’re excited to be adding to the city’s growing choice of accommodation. Molo hotels are a much valued client and we’re looking forward to delivering a top quality build with them in 2022.”
The Molo hotel incorporates Hotel Indigo Liverpool Ropewalks, a 130 bedroom hotel with a restaurant and bar, gym, meeting room and the suites on the top floor to take advantage of balcony views.
Next door will be Holiday Inn Express Liverpool Ropewalks, featuring 127 bedrooms, a restaurant, bar, and meeting space. It is constructed using modular bedroom technology all built to Holiday Inn Express’s exacting standards. Due to open in Autumn 2022 it will be operated under franchise from the Intercontinental Hotels Group (IHG).
Formed in 2017, Molo has hotels in Manchester, London, Edinburgh, Inverness and Manchebo Beach Resort & Spa in Aruba. The company continues to build a portfolio of hotels across the globe.
Guests at the new Hotel Indigo and Holiday Inn in Ropewalks will certainly have their pick of Liverpool’s top pubs and bars, including The Monro, The Merchant, Almost Famous, El Bandito and Santa Chupitos. Let’s hope that they embrace the neighbourhood of the legendary Five Dollar Shake with open arms - and ears.
