LIVERPOOL city centre is getting a new farmers-style food and drink market - and the first one takes place this weekend.

Despite setting down their stalls successfully at farmers markers in Lark Lane and Woolton, the nomadic herds of ostrich burger butchers and artisan cheese-makers have never really found an optimum place to settle in the heart of Liverpool – not since being kicked off Victoria Street car park 10 years ago.

Farmers MarketFarmers MarketBut this new market takes place just a spit away, on Stanley Street and this time the businesses on Stanley Street are behind it.

It takes place on Easter Saturday (April 7) between 9am and 3pm and promises some of Liverpool’s finest food companies offering their wares alongside street entertainment and pavement cafés.

The new market will feature stalls with farmers’ produce, local cheese artisan breads, coffee roasters, the Chocolate Cellar and one of Sir Richard Branson’s favourite Liverpool entrepreneurs: Aaron Booth’s cheesecake booth.

This new venture widens the range of markets available in Liverpool, “said Paul Amann, Stanley Street Quarter Steering Group chairman. “It will concentrate on high quality food and drink and really extend choice for shoppers.

It is one of the many ways we are making the Stanley Street Quarter a real hub of activity and diversity. I am sure we will be attracting many shoppers on Saturday - and they will want to come back and bring their friends.”

The market will be held on the first Saturday of every month until October, except for August when Liverpool Pride takes place.
