Danny Beard joins an epic cast for season four
Start your engines. The highly anticipated, RuPaul’s Drag Race UK is returning to BBC iPlayer this September, and RuPaul and BBC Three have Ru-vealed the next set of fabulous drag queens about to make their Werk Room debut.
I love having a beard, mixing genders and putting them in the blender.
Global drag icon, and judge supremo, RuPaul presides as twelve of the nation’s most fabulous queens compete over ten weeks to be crowned the UK’s next Drag Race Superstar.
Each week, the queens face challenges that test their drag race prowess to the max in the hope that they have impressed Ru enough to avoid being one of the bottom two queens facing a lip sync for their life and elimination from the competition.
Queen of queens, Mama Ru has the ultimate say on who shantays or sashays away, and each week, Ru is joined on the judging panel by Michelle Visage, an extra special celebrity guest judge and, on a rotational basis, Graham Norton and Alan Carr.
The twelve queens have been revealed as Baby (South London), Black Peppa (Birmingham), Cheddar Gorgeous (Manchester), Copper Topp (Cheltenham), Dakota Schiffer (Sussex), Danny Beard (Liverpool), Jonbers Blonde (Belfast), Just May (Essex), Le Fil (Yorkshire), Pixie Polite (Brighton), Sminty Drop (Lancashire), and Starlet (Surrey).
Liverpool’s Danny Beard describes himself as a sassy, shady, singing cartoon clown and says their biggest inspiration is Leigh Bowery. The 29-year-old, who now lives in Manchester, has been doing drag for about 10 years with residencies across the UK.
Danny has performed at Liverpool Pride but you might also recognise them as a semi-finalist of Britain’s Got Talent in 2016, wowing the judges with a performance of Sweet Transvestite from The Rocky Horror Picture Show.
On becoming the first bearded queen to appear on Drag Race UK, Danny told the BBC, “I’m a Ru Girl! I can’t believe it! I love having a beard, mixing genders and putting them in the blender. My drag is about throwing the rulebook out the window.”
Why does Danny deserve to be crowned the UK’s Next Drag Race Superstar?
“Drag Race is a dream making machine and I'm here to make my dreams come true. There has never been a bearded Queen on Drag Race UK and I am making herstory with my hairy chinny chin chin. I’m here for a laugh and… plus, I’m the best!”
Tune in to watch RuPaul's Drag Race UK Season 4 from 22 September on BBC iPlayer and BBC Three.
