THE "north's biggest" (and possibly only) al fresco pub quiz is set to take place in Sefton Park this Friday to kick off the Liverpool Food and Drink Festival.

The quiz is part of 2014 festival's celebration of the great British Pub. It features a Q&A with Tom Kerridge, the only chef ever to have received two Michelin stars for pub grub, and who is the headliner celeb for this year's event along with Yotam Ottolenghi.

The festival is now in its seventh year and continues on Saturday and Sunday where visitors can expect to see a chocolate area, an edible garden, a children’s zone, as well as a whole programme of demos from celebrity chefs - with plenty of books to sign.

More than 160 regional restaurants and producers have taken stalls for the event which this year is being sponsored by Lidl.

Yotam Ottolenghi - known for marrying food from his native Israel with textures and flavours from the Mediterranean, Middle East and Asia, says: “I’m really looking forward to taking part in the Liverpool Food and Drink Festival this year, meeting local people with a passion for food and demonstrating some of the dishes that feature in my new book, which is published around that time."

But you don't have to have a book out to be in this show. There will also be cookery demostrations by chefs from the likes of Slim’s Pork Chop Express and Almost Famous. Paul Askew's Art School will be bringing a pop-up fine dining restaurant, while Wirral caterers Pickled Walnut will be run a pop-up gastro pub.

Liverpool John Moores University will once again be giving visitors the chance to learn about the science of food with a whole area dedicated to weird and wonderful foods, featuring everything from an innovative new algae-derived ingredient to the world’s hottest chillis.

Visit Isle of Man will be bringing a taste of its most famous delicacies to the festival, from kippers to queenies. There will also be an edible garden, a real ale festival, a Champagne bar, a heavenly chocolate garden, a street food zone, live music and a dedicated kids zone.
