Food, drink, music and market stalls will line the street this Friday
Castle Street has long been a hub for some of Liverpool's best bars and restaurants. With the city's iconic Town Hall at its head, the street - once the heart of Merseyside's banking and commerce district, hence all the fancy buildings - is home to a wide array of eating and drinking spots, from nationwide chains to independent retailers.
This Friday, as part of Liverpool’s Food and Drink Week, a special all day street takeover is happening to promote the area’s bars and restaurants. Celebrating Castle Street will see a range of local businesses taking to the street to offer their wares to visitors and passers-by, in a carnival atmosphere.
Celebrating Castle Street has been organised by Liverpool BID Company, as part of its wider Food and Drink Week (September 24-30) that will include offers, masterclasses and events at venues across its two BIDs in the city centre - Commercial District BID and Retail & Leisure BID.
The takeover will see Castle Street filled with an abundance of arts and crafts stalls, street entertainment and live music, while the street’s retailers will offer food and drink samples, as well as previews of their Christmas menus. Participating retailers include the Alchemist, Gin D’Ancampo My Restaurant and the Liverpool Gin Distillery.
Bill Addy, chief executive of Liverpool BID Company, said: "Over the last five years Liverpool has witnessed unprecedented growth across its restaurant and bar scene. Along with Manchester and Leeds, the north now rivals London in terms of the number of new venues opening, with Liverpool itself leading the northern pack.
Food and Drink Week itself runs from 24th – 30th September and will see a number of bars and restaurants offer special deals, masterclasses and events across the city centre.
Celebrating Castle Street is set to take place on Friday 28th September.
A road closure will be in place from 6am-10pm.
