New foundation set up in singer's name will help musicians

FANS of The Real Thing and “all of Liverpool” will be able to say farewell to frontman Eddy Amoo when his funeral takes place next week.

The Toxteth-born singer died suddenly in Australia on 23 February this year, aged 74.

Now his family is inviting the public to join them to celebrate his life and contribution to music at a requiem service at Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral next Friday, 16th March at 12.15pm.

A private internment will take place afterwards.

Instead of flowers they are asking that donations be made to a new Just Giving  page set up in his memory.

The funeral service will take place at Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral on Friday 16th March

Fellow Real Thing members brother Chris Amoo and Dave Smith have pledged to continue touring as a two-piece with their band which had a string of hits in the 1970s including Can You Feel The Force, Can't Get By Without You and You To Me Are Everything.

They said: "Eddy's memory will live on through the music and the fans. We honour his incredible life on Friday 16th, and will keep his energy and passion alive with our concerts."

They added: "The foundation is set up in his name because he was very passionate about young musicians and wanted to give them the opportunities that are often denied to them. Eddy worked so hard in this tough, creative industry, and his legacy is to give other young people from all walks of life the opportunity to find the same joy in music that he did."
