SEXY canine capers will hit Liverpool when the city’s first ever speed dating event for dogs takes place.

Ten lovelorn dogs will be given the chance to sniff out their perfect partner -  and also take part in a stage performance based on a fictional scenario set in 2046 at a Love Hotel for dogs.

The event, taking place at FACT,  in Wood Street, is the brainchild of the foundation’s new artist in residence, Kuang-Yi Ku from Taipei, Taiwan.

Kuang-Yi Ku will be hosting  the speed dating event Pet's Pettings, at FACT on August 24 when the lucky pooches will be given the opportunity to find their perfect partner, and make their stage debuts in the futuristic performance area.

FACT is now looking for pets and their owners to get stuck in.  Dog owners are encouraged to apply to take part (via FACT's website - deadline 15 August), and a limited number of places are available for spectators interested in seeing how this will unfold.

A spokeswoman for FACT said: “Kuang-Yo specialises in sexuality, technology, queer culture and society. The idea behind Pet’s Pettings is to explore the idea of sexuality in animals.

“Should we not try to accommodate the sexuality of our pets (who we claim to love) instead of changing their sexual behaviour by neutering them?”

Kuang-Yi Ku said: “Sex exists in all creatures. Mostly, sex is for reproduction, but for humans it also involves pleasure and love. Do pets like cats and dogs also have sex for sexual pleasure, and if so, would humans care for their pets differently?”

Pet’s Pettings, says FACT, is Kuang-Yi's attempt to solve the problem by exploring the “how pets’ sexual desire will fit into the future society, and speculate on the new relationship between human beings and pets - resulting in a pet dating app, speed dating and love hotels.”

As well as being an artist, Kuang-Yi Ku works as a dentist in Taipei and collaborates on the research into the sexual habits of dogs and cats with Yi-Ling Wu, an engineer; Tzu-Yen Chen, an architect and Wen-Yu Tsai, a film maker.
