IT'S billed as Europe's largest free music event, it takes place in Sefton Park and it is FREE.

Yes, the Liverpool International Music Festival’s main event - the LIMF Summer Jam - is upon us this weekend, starring Sigma, The Wombats, Ms Dynamite, the unmissable Michael Head & The Red Elastic Band, John Power, Craig Charles, and tons more.

Among it, expect performances by members of The Lightning Seeds, The Zutons, The La's Shack and Cast.

And kicking it all off tonight,  the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra ploughing through Liverpool's biggest hits in Music City: Reimagined.

The fully orchestral set will feature music from John Lennon to Frankie Goes to Hollywood to Cilla Black and everything in between - “a rare and unmissable night in the North West's summer calendar” it says here.

This year LIMF has moved back a month, eschewing the traditional August Bank Holiday.

In theory this means a wider availability of performers, better weather and even more people about than the 160,000 who went last year.

Whatever, the fact is everyone is in a rather good mood because the school summer holidays have just begun.

Look, even Mayor Joe Anderson is grinning as he checks out the Main Stage along with LIMF curator Yaw Owusu ahead the opening.

The amount of stuff scatter-gunned around the city renders cohesive sentences impossible. But here are the LIMF Summer Jam listings for the weekend and ancilliary events and happenings.

Unless otherwise stated, it's all FREE and runs from noon to 8pm.

Go navigate.
