A COUNCILLOR who played a pivotal community role in the aftermath of Rhys Jones's shooting will be remembered in the form of a new road named after her.
A new estate in Croxteth includes a street which will be called Rose Bailey Close in honour of the former Deputy Lord Mayor who died two years ago.
A street sign will be unveiled this week in a ceremony attended by members of her family, the Mayor of Liverpool Joe Anderson, councillors and the local community.
Rose Bailey represented Croxteth on the city council from 1998 and 2010. At the time of her death she was Deputy Lord Mayor and would have become the city’s Lord Mayor the following year. She was posthumously made an Honorary Alderwoman.
Pride
Cllr Bailey was widely regarded for her part in reuniting the Croxteth community following the murder of Rhys Jones and was always prominent in speaking up for the area.
“If ever anybody deserved to be honoured in the is way it is Rose, “ said Mayor Joe Anderson.
“She was somebody who had real pride in the area she represented and she never missed an opportunity to speak up on behalf of Croxteth and Liverpool.
“We will never forget the way she fought to show the true face of the community when she saw how it had been represented in the aftermath of Rhys Jones’ death.
Rose Bailey Close consists of 36 new houses, bungalows and flats.
Ann Louise Gilmore, from Cobalt Housing, which is behind the scheme, said: "Rose was a much loved councillor and it's a fitting tribute for her to be remembered in this way."
