‘Liverpool Story: Portrait of a City’ set for premiere at Philharmonic

An independent documentary celebrating ‘lesser-known Liverpool’ is staging its premiere next month.

Liverpool Story: Portrait of a City will premiere at the Philharmonic on Thursday 21 November.

Described as a ‘poetic presentation of lesser-known Liverpool made by the people who live here’, the film by local independent production company, Shut Out the Light Films, follows their previous film, 2021’s Almost Liverpool 8.

Directed by Daniel Draper and produced and edited by Christie Allanson, the ‘year-in-the-life’ film was shot in each of the city’s postcodes across 2023.

On the upcoming film, Shut Out the Light Films said: “Finding beauty in the ordinary, Liverpool takes centre stage in this year-in-the-life documentary.

“Communities and voices are observed from a fresh perspective as the city navigates an eventful year. Mirroring the ebb and flow of the River Mersey, Liverpool Story is an intimate document of daily life; observing the city and its people over the passing seasons.

“We spent the whole of 2023 filming in every postcode for our latest film. The most filmed-in city outside of London, Liverpool finally gets a film of its own - made by people who live here. Themes of home, belonging and memory make this a poetic presentation of the lesser-known Liverpool, from drag nights to doggy day care and everything in between.”

The premiere of 'Liverpool Story: Portrait of a City' is at Liverpool Philharmonic on Thursday 21 November.
