Castle Street restaurant promises to ‘bring Christmas to Liverpool’

The Ivy Collection has announced that its first site in Liverpool, The Ivy Brasserie on Castle Street, will be open in time for the festive period.

Housed in the grand, Grade I-listed building once home to the Bank of England, the new brasserie is set to be the 43rd restaurant opened by the collection.

With capacity for 180 diners, there will also be a private dining room hosting 14 for special events and festive parties.

It will serve an array of menus across the week, from breakfast, brunch and its signature Sunday roast to an all day a la carte menu as well as its mid-week 1917 menu, with two courses for £19.17 representing an affordable dining experience.

The Ivy Liverpool Brasserie will be led by Liverpudlian Kate Keyes, an experienced General Manager who has extensive experience in the city’s hospitality scene, including with the Individual Restaurant Group.

Laura Mills, Managing Director at The Ivy Collection, explained: “We’re so excited to bring The Ivy Collection to the fantastic city of Liverpool. Since opening our Spinningfields restaurant in Manchester, we’ve had the pleasure of welcoming many Liverpool residents to The Ivy who have made the trip to dine with us.

“We’re delighted that this extraordinary city, steeped in history, culture and rich heritage, will have its very own Ivy Brasserie where we can welcome everyone to enjoy The Ivy experience for any and all occasions. The team can’t wait to open ahead of the festive season and bring Christmas to Liverpool, The Ivy way.”

The site opened as a Bank of England branch in 1826, helping to establish the Castle Street area as the city’s financial district. An historic architectural landmark situated within the Castle Street Conservation Area, the building was designed by Charles Robert Cockerell.

The Grade I-listed building on the site was rebuilt 1845-48 in the neoclassical style, replacing the earlier bank. It was last used by the Bank of England in 1987 and has been vacant since the 1990s.

It was announced back in July that planning permission submitted by consultancy firm The Pegasus Group had been approved and restoration work on the building could begin.

A spokesperson for Pegasus Group said: “Liverpool has an array of beautiful, historic buildings and we’re very pleased to have played our part in bringing 31 Castle Street back to life.

“The Ivy is much-loved across the UK and this new operation will further bolster the city’s burgeoning premium hospitality offering.”

The Ivy Liverpool Brasserie is currently on the lookout for passionate and dedicated individuals to be part of its dynamic team.
