IT might not be able to boast full-to-capacity office space but at least the downtown restaurant trade is showing brisk signs of life in its square footage.

In fact, where they once echoed to the tap of typewriters, the listed walls of Castle Street, Exchange Flags and environs now resonate to the clatter of cutlery.

This has not escaped the attention of the Liverpool Commercial Business Improvement District.

Time, then, for a branded Restaurant Week.

Running until Sunday, January 31, it’s seven days of promotional restaurant deals put together by the Liverpool BID Company “to showcase the quality and variety of the district’s blossoming food sector”.

Sixteen venues have signed up, offering a range of money-saving offers across several international cuisines – “from Japanese to Brazilian and tapas to scouse” - with some going up to 50 percent off the food bill.

Highlights include a wine tasting event at Fazenda on Thursday evening (Jan 28t) and NYL Restaurant & Bar launching its first Fizz Friday (from 5pm on Friday 29th) with live music, special discounts and a new cocktail menu.

The launch of Restaurant Week comes as the Commercial District BID launches its new five year business plan in February before going to a month long renewal ballot that ends on March 17.

Tracey Crosbie, Events Manager at Liverpool BID Company, said: “Liverpool city centre has seen a phenomenal growth in the number and quality of restaurants in recent years – and none more so than in the commercial district.

“We wanted this new Restaurant Week to be a platform to celebrate what our multi-talented chefs produce every day in the commercial district and we’ve been delighted with the response and the genorosity of the offers.

“It’s a win-win for both the eatery and the diner and we’ll be looking to build on the success by hosting future Restaurant Weeks.”
