"A SUPER car being tested on the airport taxiway, the opening of a new gym for airport employees, local school children attending an airport tour and playing tennis on the runway. It is all in a day’s work for employees at ‘The Holiday Airport’."
TV cameras spent over three months filming at Liverpool John Lennon Airport ("Above Us Only Skies") earlier this year. and this week viewers can see what they found with the first broadcast of Channel 5’s The Holiday Airport. The new series, follows the stories of passengers who pass through the airport, not to mention the teams of employees behind the scenes.
It comes from Bristol-based Plimsoll Productions who say they chose Liverpool because of its reputation as an airport "where the holiday starts the moment you arrive". Will this mean shots of happy people downing pints of lager at the departure lounge bar at 6am? Who knows? But the airport says it subsequently agreed to give "unique behind-the-scenes access" to the film crew.
Employees from across a diverse range of organisations who work at the airport were filmed undertaking their daily duties, but it was the more unusual activities that regularly take place at the airport that interested the programme makers too.
Robin Tudor, Liverpool John Lennon Airport spokesman, commented, “Passengers tell us what a great experience they have when travelling through the airport at the start of their holiday and I’m sure this series will help to capture and share this with viewers."
