You have Gouda me kidding me. Liverpool’s first revolving cheese and wine bar has arrived inside The GPO at Metquarter. Things just don’t get cheddar than this. Are we going to go overboard on cheese puns? You feta believe it.

We’ve been big fans of The GPO since it landed and we’re not the only ones - Jay Rayner recently decided to drop in for a taste of Konjö, MorMor, Chit ’n’ Chaat, Jailbird and Ice Desserts. Cheesus, that man can eat.
Claiming to be “the biggest food hall in the city,” the 11,000 square foot GPO features a new wave of independent food and drink traders from across the North West. The food hall pays homage to the building’s past as the General Post Office which was constructed in Victoria Street between 1894 and 1899.
In its new guise as an indie food and drink hub, GPO champions independent regional food talent, showcasing a wide variety of cuisine with a focus on high quality street food.
If you love cheese porn then the newest addition to The GPO is going to be your Fifty Shades of Gruyere. The Carousel Cheese Co. serves a selection of the finest cheese, charcuterie and wine from across the British Isles. But the best bit is that the food is presented on a revolving sushi style conveyer belt for a truly unique experience.
Liverpool-based North by Sud-ouest will provide charcuterie for the belt, producing traditionally cured meats with a nose to tail ethic. Diners will be able to enjoy exclusively high welfare, free range, slow-grown, local and rare breed meat from this award-winning charcuterie.
To bring out the flavours of the cheese and charcuterie, garnishes will be provided from the Fermentation Station UK who specialise in local, small-batch, gut-loving garnishes to make the ultimate cheese and wine pairing.
The Carousel Cheese Co. is a love project for owners Patrick Bond and James Kohanzad who have experience working as Richard Branson’s private chefs on Necker Island. Following a difficult couple of years for the farming industry, the space will provide British farmers with an avenue to sell their unique and crafted products.
“British cheese farms should be celebrated on a platform that showcases, with passion, our country’s diverse and artisan cheese makers,” says Patrick.
“Now more than ever we need a place to appreciate the finer things in life and what better way than on our unique conveyor belt.”
James says, “We are proud to bring our conveyor belt experience to The GPO and showcase the best of British cheese and charcuterie to Liverpool.
"We are delighted to be working with North by Sud-ouest and the Fermentation Station, two amazing Liverpool producers who make exquisite charcuterie, ferments and pickles which will all feature on our cheese belt.”
That all sounds grate. I’m no Paris Stilton or Justin Brieber, but I’ve Gouda feeling that Carousel Cheese Company is gonna be the big cheese in town. (You’re sacked - Ed)
The GPO is open Sunday to Thursday 8.30am until 11pm, and 8.30am until midnight on Friday and Saturdays, serving alcohol throughout. Book online via The GPO website.
