CONFIDENTIAL PROMOTION

CHEF Patron of The Art School, Paul Askew, knows how to look after things, whether it's preparing carefully-sourced ingredients so that their flavours sing out on the plate or nurturing his talented team in the kitchens.

Diners who don't eat meat don't get the short straw

Alumni of The Art School include Clare Lara who was the first female winner of MasterChef as well as winners of both Young Chef of Merseyside and Young Chef of the North.

Chefs and sommeliers at The Art School have gone on to work at world-famous establishments such as Mugaritz in San Sebastian and Thomas Keller's PerSé restaurant in New York.

The success of the staff puts Liverpool on the culinary map but it's no surprise, it's all down to the insistence on quality you'll find at The Art School.

Paul Askew is a North West food hero and a member of the Royal Academy of the  Culinary Art and he brings both passion and precision to the food at The Art School.

Dishes like warm salad of honey-glazed roasted fig with Hooton watercress and Tymsboro goat's cheese shout about the provenance of their ingredients – and they've every right to. Produce is fresh and seasonal, delivering clean, punchy flavours that reveal the essence of each component.

It's unmistakeably fine-dining and the surroundings are undeniably impressive but a meal at The Art School is neither starchy nor stifling in its formality – which is as you'd expect from a chef who goes by the moniker @Porkyaskew on the twittersphere. It's all about an enjoyment of great food and wine. If anything, it's democratic dining as well as fine dining.

Tasting menus are a real treat but diners who don't eat meat don't get the short straw. As well as the usual menu excellence and tasting menus, there are also versions for pescatarians and vegetarians.

It's not just a case of a token nod in their direction either – dishes such as wild sea trout, cured in-house and served with a salad of cockles and shaved fennel or a twice-baked soufflé of local pink tip spinach and Mrs Kirkham's Lancashire cheese are a delicious dish on anyone's plate.
