LOCAL RECORD LABEL Dead Young Records, who host Oporto’s weekly night The Gaslight Club, have announced the details of their ninth annual Christmas special, to be held at Leeds’ magnificent Holy Trinity Church.

This record is one that means a lot to a huge amount of people, and has also been really influential to countless musicians in the past few years.

A supergroup of Leeds singer-songwriters headed by Sam Airey, Ellen Smith (Ellen & the Escapades) and Altar Hanglands (Harry Ridgway) has been assembled for a special, one-off performance of Bon Iver’s modern classic For Emma, Forever Ago in its entirety.

Sam explained “This record is one that means a lot to a huge amount of people, and has also been really influential to countless musicians in the past few years. Collectively, we are no exception to this - we’re looking forward to getting stuck into this as a project and really hope we can do it justice”

The band has also arranged for Paul Thomas Saunders to return for his first Leeds show in two years, as well as fast-rising composer Simeon Walker, singer-songwriter Reece Jacob, and - as is tradition now - These Men, who will be opening the show with a set of alternative Christmas carols.

The Gaslight Club’s weekly host Gary Stewart will, as ever, be taking up hosting duties for the event, which takes place on Monday 5 December. Tickets are on sale now for just £7, available from Crash & Jumbo Records.
