The Masterchef star has a new veggie friendly gaff on Roundhay Road
It’s been a busy 2018 for local boy Matt Healy. Fresh off the back of the successful launch of Matt Healy x The Foundry back in May, the 2016 Masterchef: The Professionals runner-up has now launched a vegan and vegetarian-friendly café, right in the heart of Oakwood.
There’s no denying that many people are actively cutting down on their meat consumption...
Grön Kafé, which has taken over the premises from previous incumbent Stories, will tap into the ever-growing healthy living market with a range of breakfasts, brunches and late afternoon plates that include soya yoghurt, a range of vegetarian and vegan pancakes, daily smoothie bowls with fresh fruit and seeds and more substantial dishes like butternut risotto.
A range of hot and cold drinks are also available, with coffee from North Star, tea from Sheffield’s Birdhouse Tea Company and a carefully-curated selection of wines from Chapel Allerton’s Wayward, many of which are natural wines. There are also several pick-me-up juices on the menu, including a Daily Greens Juice and a Chia and Flax Seed Smoothie.
With the main focus being on vegan-friendly eating and drinking, don’t be afraid to ask for dairy-free alternatives; Grön offer several options, including almond and oat milks, for no extra charge. There are also plenty of gluten free options and a daily specials board to keep regulars going back to try new dishes.
Grön will also offer smaller versions of the dishes on the menu for children, student discounts and free WiFi for those who like to work on the go in peaceful, Scandi-style surroundings.
Executive Chef Matt Healy explained: “There’s no denying that many people are actively cutting down on their meat consumption, and we want to prove that vegetarian and vegan dishes serve up just as much flavour. We’ve created an all-day menu of options to tickle every tastebud and set you up for the day.”
Grön opens at 454 Roundhay Road, Leeds LS8 2HU from 8-5 on weekdays with food served from 9-4, and 9-5 at the weekend (food 10-4).
