Wild beers, artisan cheese, and avant-garde Chinese - 6 pop-ups you'll want to pop down to

Cheese & Beer Supperclub with Josh Whitehead

“This won’t be a bog standard beer and cheese pairing event” promise the organisers Superdates: “but one that features a menu that is creative, inspiring and fun with surprises thrown in for good measure.”. Following their sell-out Working Mens Social Club-inspired supperclub for Leeds Indie Food, they’re teaming up with Josh Whitehead again to kick off Leeds Beer Week with a menu of small plates and beer pairings at speciality cheesemonger George & Joseph’s new Chapel Allerton shop. This celebration of independent brewing and small-scale cheesemaking is an intimate and stripped-back affair, so there’s limited tickets available.

Thursday 24 August, George & Joseph Cheesemongers, 140 Harrogate Road, Chapel Allerton, LS7 4NZ. Tickets

An Evening with Wild Beer & Ox Club

As part of this year’s Leeds Beer Week, Ox Club are putting on a special one-night-only menu of dishes designed to be paired with beers from the ever-innovative Wild Beer Company. There’s no set menu, just pick the dishes you like the sound of, and order the beers that they’re designed to pair with (or vice-versa…)

The menu’s still under wraps, but there’s some pretty special Wild Beers available, including the Sake-inspired, yuzu-infused, barrel-aged Yadokai, the sour and funky Squashed Grape, and their classic bread-infused Sourdough Berliner Weiss.

Tuesday 29 August, Ox Club 19a The Headrow, LS1 6PU. Booking

Hidden Harewood

Josh Whitehead’s got a busy few weeks ahead of him, on top of George & Joseph and Ox Club’s events for Leeds Beer Week, the Ox Club & MasterChef is heading up the first ever Hidden Harewood; a totally unique new event where guests work their way around previously unseen-by-the-public areas of the Harewood estate, and work their way through produce and game sourced direct from the estate’s grounds. Check out the full details on our preview

Thursday 31 August - Saturday 2 September. Harewood House, Sandy Gate, Harewood, LS17 9LG. Tickets

Holy Mountain’s Taco Tuesdays

Get it right: these aren’t supperclubs, they’s food parties. And there’s one every Tuesday throughout September. Holy Mountain is the youngest pop-up in the game, making authentic, fresh, and uncomplicated tacos with passion and know-how. What makes it a food party? The fact they’re being served in one of Leeds’ best and truest dive bars, accompanied by buckets of expertly-made cocktails, and a ringing in your ears the next morning.

Tuesdays throughout September. The East Village, 47-49 Brudenell Grove, LS6 1HR

XO residency at Oporto

XO is one of the most exciting names in Leeds food at the minute, with unique - sometimes bizarre - flavour combinations presented in an unassuming way, and an elastic approach to format which allows them to straddle the lines of supper club, street food, and restaurant in need of a permanent home.

Their temporary home throughout September is a typically unpredictable residency at Call Lane’s Oporto, where they’re offering a £25 set menu (which is top secret) every Wednesday and Thursday evening.

Wednesdays & Thursdays throughout September. Oporto, 33 Call Lane, Leeds LS1 7B

Noise of Strangers presents Andi Walker

Don’t let the name fool you, the people making noise at NOS supper clubs are far from strangers; a cult following as developed around the collective in the past few years, selling out dozens of events which bring some of the best chefs from around the country to cook in secret locations around Leeds.

September is the turn of Andi Walker, whose Modern British dishes leaning towards fine-dining got him to the semi-finals of MasterChef: The Professionals. He’ll be cooking a five course menu including citrus-cured sea trout with bloody mary, avocado and crab, and spiced shoulder of lamb on three separate evenings this September.

Thursday 14 - Saturday 16 September. Tickets

King Street Social Club

Ok, so technically they haven’t announced their next event, but they’ve just hosted slightly-mad, MIchelin-star chef Anton Piotrowski at their first supperclub, and it looked incredible. Who knows what they’ve got up their sleeve next time, but you just know it’s gonna be worth keeping an eye on..
