Update:  Merseyside Police can confirm that a post mortem has been carried out on the adult female, who died in fire at a flat on  Moscow Drive, Tuebrook, yesterday morning (Thursday, 8 May).

 
The cause of death is still not known, and Post Mortem examinations are continuing. Work is ongoing to formally identify the woman and to contact next of kin.
 
A post mortem will be carried out to establish the cause of the death today and work is ongoing to identify the sex, age and identity of the child.
 
A joint investigation in to the cause of the fire at the flat is ongoing.

THE BODIES of a woman in her 40s and a child have been recovered from the scene of a blaze in Stoneycroft early this morning. 

Merseyside Police and Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service have begun a joint investigation.

Emergency services were called to a flat on Moscow Drive at about 5.30am following a report of a fire. Neighbours had previously heard an explosion and screams, according to media reports.

The two individuals, whose identity has not yet been confirmed, were pronounced dead at the scene

A police statement said: “At this time we cannot confirm the age or sex of the child”, adding: “At this stage it is too early to draw conclusions about the cause of the fire and it is unhelpful to speculate.” 

The scene has been cordoned off and officers are continue carrying out enquiries in the local area.
