We were quite upset when the Sainsbury’s at the top of Bold Street closed - where else could you go in a drunken haze to grab some vodka, bin bags and matches on the way home? Wait, forget we said that. Anyway, things began to look up a few months ago when we spotted the licence application from Rudy’s slapped on the door.

Hailed as the "fifth best pizza in Europe 2021" by Big Seven, Rudy’s Pizza have confirmed that the second Liverpool site will open this September. But that’s not all - Rudy’s has also announced it will be giving away 2,500 free pizzas during the launch. Cowabunga.

Rudy's Pizza first opened in Manchester's own 'Little Italy' in Ancoats in 2015, launching their first Liverpool restaurant on Castle Street in 2018. Rudy's makes their dough on site every day, giving it 24 hours to double ferment and just 60 seconds to cook, leaving it soft and floppy with a leopard patterned cornichon (crust).

Believing Neapolitan pizza to be the best in the world, Rudy’s dough is made fresh daily using Caputo ‘00’ flour, alongside the best quality ingredients imported twice a week from Naples, including San Marzano tomatoes grown on fields next to Mount Vesuvius, and Fior di Latte mozzarella.

Specialities include ancozzese affumicata, a "white pizza" with chilli flakes, smoked mozzarella, Tuscan sausage, friarielli (wild broccoli) and olive oil, or calabrese with spicy soft Calabrain sausage that melts into the pizza.

Rudy’s restaurants offer a relaxed environment in a stripped back industrial style with passionate pizzaiolo’s intent on following the traditions and artistry of pizza from Naples – the birthplace of pizza. The new Rudy’s pizzeria at 105-107 Bold Street will occupy 3000 sq ft, providing 120 covers, slap bang in the heart of the city centre.

It’s the latest venture from Mission Mars – the group behind both Rudy’s Pizza and Albert’s Schenke, as well as Trof, Albert Hall and Zumhof in Manchester.
