Survey reveals region’s Top Ten funeral songs
Who Wants to Live Forever is the message most people in the North West want to leave for loved ones, according to a survey of songs people want played at their funerals, commissioned by App provider iFuneral.
By choosing Queen’s classic track as its favourite, the region bucks the national trend for the most popular song, Eric Idle’s Always Look on the Bright Side of Life.
In second place came Time to Say Goodbye by Andrea Bocelli & Sarah Brightman.
Just one of the North West’s Top Ten funeral songs from the survey was a traditional church hymn, with respondents overwhelmingly voting for contemporary melodies and chart hits. Nonetheless, patriotic hymn Jerusalem by William Blake earned itself third place.
The North West’s Top Ten most popular songs people want played at their funerals are:

Always Look on the Bright Side of Life was Number One in every region except the North West, where people favoured Who Wants to Live Forever, and the East Midlands where the top track was You’ll Never Walk Alone.

Now for the first time an iPhone App puts YOU in control of your final appearance and ensures that your wishes are known - from the songs you’d like played at the ceremony to dress codes, coffin styles and cortege arrangements. It then communicates your wishes to next of kin.
People can also log details of law firms, insurers or pre-payment plans, charities they wish to support, preferred funeral directors and bereavement counsellors. This makes for the swift location of legal documents, such as wills, and allows grieving relatives to tie up administrational processes simply and easily with minimal distress.
Not only can you state your religion and opt for burial or cremation, but also:
- · Choose flowers and music for the ceremony (with the option of adding tracks from iTunes)
- · Select from a wide range of coffin styles
- · Specify cortege arrangements and even the clothes they want to wear/want other people to wear for the ceremony
- · Add any special requests
