A public memorial service for singer/songwriter Colin Vearncombe will be held at Liverpool Anglican Cathedral later this month.
Organisers say they are expecting a large number of people from around the world to attend the evening event on Friday, February 19.
Vearncombe, 53, died last week (January 26) in hospital in Cork as a result of injuries sustained in a car crash a fortnight earlier. His funeral was taking place in Ireland today.
However, “hundreds of friends, acquaintances and music fans have expressed a desire to come together to celebrate Colin’s life and everyone is warmly welcome to join Colin’s family to give him one last wonderful send off”, says a statement from his management announcing the Liverpool remembrance.
The city-born musician, who shot to fame as Black in 1987 with his global hit, Wonderful Life, is survived by sons Max, Marius, and Milan, wife Camilla, brothers David and Rick, father Alan and mother Silvia.
They have singled out two charities in Cork, where the singer lived, should mourners wish to donate in lieu of flowers.
The first is Bru Columbanus – a facility that provides home from home accommodation to relatives of seriously ill patients in Cork hospitals and something his family described as a haven in his final weeks,
They have also named West Cork Rapid Response Team – a group of volunteers s who provide pre-hospital critical care at the scene of accidents, working in partnership with the Cork Emergency Service
