Derek of the decks
CULT Reggae DJ and real ale connoisseur DJ Derek will be returning to the Kazimier this weekend for what will be his last ever gig in the city.
Derek Morris, 70 year old former Cadbury's pen-pusher from Bristol, gave the white collar up for black roots, becoming DJ Derek, spinner of rocksteady, reggae, ska, dancehall and soul music.
He's a legend in the industry, feted by the likes of Massive Attack and has appeared at Glastonbury, the Big Chill and even in a Dizzee Rascal video.
But now he is retiring.
There are two chances to catch him on Friday. First up Derek will hit the decks at Uperitive. £4 in and you get a free hot and cold italian buffet from 6pm till 8pm, a selection of Italian drinks at the bar (including the infamous NEGRONI that will ruin your weekends forever) and support from liverpool's finest DJs and electronic acts.
From 10pm until late, the man with the staying power is at it again.
Say goodbye to Derek in the grooviest of ways.

Hop-la!All the fun of the fair
PORT Sunlight Village Trust is staging one of the biggest events in its history this weekend.
The Museum has combined its summer festival and winter food fayre into a signature PG Tips Port Sunlight Festival event tomorrow September 21st/22nd that will coincide with its Founder’s Day celebrations.
Organisers of the festival are expecting an audience in the region of 30,000 over the two days. Key elements will include over 100 regional food and craft producers, chef demonstration stage, vintage entertainment and children’s rides, a fun dog show, a vintage and classic car display, and live music.
Mojo rising
Dynamic Liverpool theatre company 20 Stories High joins forces with Liverpool Everyman and Playhouse and Leicester’s Curve theatre this weekend for the world première of Melody Loses Her Mojo.
Written and directed by ex Everyman Youth Theate member Keith Saha, it's hip hop Theatre, fusing spoken word, music, dance, puppetry and street art.
Melody Loses Her MojoMelody is in care and has been separated from her little sister Harmony. She’s got to keep hold of her toy monster Mojo to keep her on the straight and narrow. But when new girl Blessing arrives from Nigeria and tries to steal her best mate Rizla, Melody’s demons begin to take over her Mojo with devastating consequences.
Described as a gritty (swearing), funny and emotional story, it follows three young people as they begin to fend for themselves in a world that sometimes feels unreal.
