Tropicalism was a revolutionary movement of the 1960s that changed the course of Brazil's art, music and film, whose influence on the country's culture is still apparent to this day.
Liverpool tonight finds out how lucky the 2012 Brazilian scene is, when the form's latest protagonists - a collective of Sao Paolo DJs, artists and musicians - descends on Camp and Furnace.
They are the core of Voodoohop, a unique party that has illuminated Sao Paulo nightlife for the last four years. They are travelling across Europe, taking in stops at Documenta festival in Switzerland and Barcelona's Sonar.
From its beginnings in a dive bar on red light Rua Augusta, Voodoohop quickly became a scene of unconventional art, music and hedonism. Over time the parties have grown, occupying larger venues in the old centre of Sao Paulo.
Viral online promotion and public interaction enabled irregular and nomadic happenings; exploring temporary environments such as abandoned buildings, car parks, private houses, cemeteries, motorway flyovers, forests and strip clubs; each night unique, spontaneous situationism and spectacle with a musical soundtrack from a range of resident djs and new electronic artists, which over time has become increasingly unorthodox and exciting.

'An immersive and other-worldly experience'
Whale Song is a sea story set in a library; a love story cast out to sea.
Part 'Jackanory' for adults, part illustrated song, Whale Song: A Land Locked Love Story was originally part of the Sea Odyssey event but illness forced a postponement. Original date above.
It tells the story of a whale called Lucky, who comes ashore in Liverpool and walks through the city centre in search of lost love.
With so many stories stuck in his giant belly, he goes straight to Central Library where he finds librarian and kindred spirit, Joanne. They meet after-hours at the library night after night and fall in love. But the library is under threat of closure, so together they devise a plan not only to save the library but to save Lucky from the hands of the developer.

It's the Brazilica Carnival Ball which will see The Kazimier “awash with vibrant colour, glamour and sparkle”. When was it not so at the thinking Liverpolitan's favourite venue.
The ball features performances from We The Undersigned, Long Finger Bandits, Afro Samba, Liverpool Samba School, Capoeira Dança da Liberdade, Dance with the Crew, TVLux & Craft Creative, plus DJs Monkey & Audio Voyeur. If you are feeling the Samba vibe and want to dress up in carnival gear don’t be shy, organisers say they would love to see you there.
