The Brouhaha International Festival celebrates its tenth year in Liverpool this weekend. And it could get messy.
Friday night is going to be outrageous fun at the J’ouvert in The Kazimier Garden. From 8pm until midnight, the venue as well as everybody there will be covered in paint, mud and even chocolate! The J’ouvert is a party is traditionally held on the eve of a carnival, where party goers will be able to dance all evening to the fantastic live music lined up. The Music Against Racism gig involves artists from Liverpool, Portugal, Martinique, Turkey and the Netherlands.
J'ouvertThe event creators have promised drums, fun, and plenty of rum! Entrance is free and paint and mud are provided for you upon your arrival. The dress code: whatever you were planning to throw out this summer; it is going to be messy!

Saturday is the Brouhaha International Carnival parade, which will culminate at the World in Princes Park Festival. Princes Park will be buzzing all afternoon with music, workshops, and international food stalls. The costumes featured in the parade were all made locally and are themed on the continents of the world. The park will have a wide range of performances on throughout the afternoon, from urban and hip-hop dance to circus and acrobatic acts. If you have never heard the Portuguese bagpipes played before, be around for when Brombrando take the stage. Global Beats is also set to be the highlight of all of the performances, with over fifty drummers from all of the acts collaborating to perform a new score on the day.
The events have a great cause and are all free admission, so go along and show your support for the arts gaining strength through diversity.

The Wind in the Willows
The Young Everyman Playhouse theatre group are performing a modernized adaptation of The Wind of the Willows in the beautiful grounds of Croxteth Hall and Country Park this weekend. The contemporary version of the classic incorporates themes of social hierarchy and the struggle for power. Will the weasels gain victory this time around?
The Wind in the Willows, Friday 26th to Sunday 28th July, Croxteth Hall, shows on at 5pm and 7pm. Tickets are £6/£4.
BeauSoleil avec Michael Doucet
The Grammy-award winning group are performing an evening of Americana music at the Philharmonic Hall on Saturday night. Bob Dylan is quoted to have described the group’s mix of New Orleans Jazz, blues, swamp pop, Zydeco, country and bluegrass as his kind of music.
The evening promises quality entertainment from the very beginning, with the award-winning Chris Moreton kicking the show off as the support act. Moreton was named the best blue grass guitarist in the country by The Independent, so the two acts together are sure to deliver a seamless evening of excellent music.

Summer Arts Market
St George’s Hall holds its first ever Summer Arts Market this Saturday and Sunday. Creations on sale will include paintings, jewellery, tableware, beauty products, textiles, photography and knitwear.
There will also be a number of art workshops on headed by professional groups such as The Button Boutique and Craft Creative. Craft creative are holding workshops such as Pimp My Festival Wardrobe and From White to Bright, here you can be taught how to spruce up your sunnies up or successfully tie-dye a boring white t-shirt. On top of all this, there will be kids’ activities available and a chance to browse around the striking Grade I listed building when it is vibrant and bustling.

Pole dancing
Ever fancied trying out May-pole dancing? Well make sure you head over to Chester this weekend, because Sunday is your chance! There are twenty minute sessions on for adults and children all afternoon, starting from 12.20pm and finishing at 5pm. Stalls and entertainment will be on in Rufus court, so you can stay there for a full afternoon of family fun.
