The Oscars may be over, but the red carpet is getting that little bit stickier at the Kazimier this Saturday with a Tinseltown spectacular.
Yes, music from the silver screen is the theme as, once more, 10 bands will take to the Kazimier stage to deliver 10 breakneck sets, “each featuring at least one movie banger”, it says here.
The nominees are: Married to the Sea; White Blacula; Avenging Force; Double Double Plus Good; Silent Sleep; Big Safari; Man in the Dark; Faded Gold; The Swapsies; A Lovely War.

One, Singular Sensation
Now if you actually want to sing songs from the shows, rather than just geg in on someone else's gig, here's the thing.
Theatre musical director and vocal coach Joe Bunker is conducting a musical theatre singing workshop at the Bluecoat this Sunday in conjunction with Sense of Sound.
You will sing and explore all this is best about musical theatre, in all its diverse glory, from the golden age of musicals in the 20s and 30s through to the present day. The bulk of the day will be spent singing - learning new repertoire in a relaxed environment with a dynamic group of people. These songs will be supplemented and brought to life with anecdotes and context from Joe, as well as technical tips and lively discussion about singing in the theatre. More information here.

Northern lights

Using the traditional music of the North East as a starting point, Becky and Rachel Unthank and their band harness the sounds of Steve Reich, Miles Davis, King Crimson and more.
Seven albums to date so what now? A new one, released to coincide with this concert, and brought to life on stage by a talented ten-piece band. Past projects - the orchestral ambition of a brass band collaboration, a reimagining of the work of Robert Wyatt and Antony Hegarty, and a soundtrack to a film about the shipbuilding industry - give little clue.
