MOCK The Week comedian Romesh Ranganathan is to headline the programme of funny acts at this year’s Liverpool Comedy Festival.
Ranganathan will bring his latest show Irrational to the Liverpool Philharmonic on Wednesday 21 September.
Ranganathan will join the mix of local comedy talent who will perform throughout the city, with events taking place in eighteen venues between 18 September – 2 October.
The festival, now in its fifteenth year, is organised by The Comedy Trust who have lined-up a medley of performances in bars, shops, schools and ‘even people’s houses’. There is also to be comedy coach tours, kids shows, pub crawls, poets, podcasts, open mic nights, quizzes, magicians, networking events, rap battles, plays and sketch groups.
Fresh off his hit BBC series Asian Provocateur, Ranganathan will bring his latest show Irrational to the Liverpool Philharmonic on Wednesday 21 September.
Meanwhile, stand-up comedians Simon Munnery (1 October) and Tiff Stevenson (30 September) bring their distinct styles to the Unity Theatre, as Irish motormouth Jason Byrne crashes into the Epstein Theatre with his wild and wonderful silliness.
What's more, if politics is more your thing then the #JC4PM (Jeremy Corbyn for PM) Tour will rocks into St George’s Hall on 25 and 26 September, with performances from Rufus Hound, Jeremy Hardy, Francesca Martinez and Sara Pascoe.
For the first time, the festival will host its very own Fringe Festival, curated by podcast comedy duo Funny Looking Live. The aptly titled Funny Looking Fringe will take place at 81 Renshaw Street and will showcase some of the best and brightest long-form comedy at fantastically cheap prices. Other notable acts at the Fringe include Fosters Comedy Award Nominees Kiri Pritchard-McLean, Geins Family Giftshop, local legends Steve Gribbin and Adam Staunton and leftfield darlings Ed Aczel and Top Joe. Funny Looking Fringe will also play host to Funny Looking Kids, live podcasts and improv battles with Comedy Sportz.
Local, year-round comedy clubs will play their part with shows Comedy Cellar, Comedy Central, Hot Water, Laughterhouse and the brand new Liverpool Comedy Club at Camp and Furnace. Rising comedy star Adam Rowe will be looking for his fourth consecutive sell-out show at Liverpool Comedy Festival at Hot Water Comedy Club on 29 September with his Live In Liverpool show.
In a bid find budding new talent, The Comedy Trust will also be working with Festival Partners Liverpool BID Company to train ten city centre workers to become stand up comedians over six weeks, with a live performance on Wednesday 28 September at Laughterhouse.
