IT was supposed to be a private, no publicity, no frills, no photos visit to The Beatles Story. So staff at the Albert Dock attraction, true to their word, kept quiet about the visit of Beatles fan and Hollywood celeb Kelly Osbourne.
But as Ozzie's girl was heading home to Los Angeles she thought better of all that and confided in her 3.5m Twitter followers about her visit to Liverpool. She even posted a photo of her and her friends inside the Fab Four shrine.
She tweeted: “Thank you so much to everyone at #TheBeatlesStoryfor not only staying open late to give us a private tour but also for being soooooo lovely to us you spoiled us rotten! Thank you thank you thank you!
Another tweet from Kelly read: “Bye Bye #Liverpool I had the best time ever but sadly is back to work over the pond for me! #Hollyweird”.
Ringo gifts
Her private visit was tagged on to the end of closing time at the attraction and it seems she spent an hour or so admiring the exhibits. One of her friends in the party even bought a number of items from the gift shop to give to his friend Ringo Starr’s daughter on their return to LA where the drummer also lives.
After the tour, Kelly and her friends turned up at Smugglers Cove for dinner.
Kelly’s tweets indicated she had spent a number of days in and around Liverpool last weekend, including a visit to a clothes shop in West Kirby.
The Liverpool visit has fuelled speculation that Kelly has a new "special friend” in Merseyside following her split last month from fiancé chef Matthew Mosshart.
Today Beatles Story Director Martin King told Liverpool Confidential: “We were asked about a private visit and it was stressed Kelly didn’t want any publicity, so we treated it as a private visit and respected her wish for privacy.
Keep it under wraps: Kelly Osbourne sends this snap to Instagram after her top secret visit to The Beatles Story at Albert Dock
“So we were thrilled when she tweeted about her visit to The Beatles Story and to Liverpool. When you consider she has 3.5m worldwide followers it shows the power of social media. We couldn’t be more delighted at word of our attraction being spread by Kelly. She came at closing time so the staff were still here and she spent at least an hour looking around. She even posted one of the photos on Instagram.
“Because of the 50th anniversary celebrations of the Beatles first tour to the US there is a sort of mini Beatlemania going on and we are seeing a big increase in visits to our website from around the world. A lot of visitors to the site are young people not even born when the Beatles were still together as a group.”
