THE Liverpool Playhouse co-production of The Ladykillers has been nominated for five Olivier Awards, including Best New Play, Best Director for Sean Foley and Best Actress for Marcia Warren.

The play, the first stage venture by by Father Ted and IT Crowd writer Graham Linehan, was adapted from William Rose’s original 1955 Ealing Comedy. It opened in Liverpool last November with a sell out run ahead of its West End debut at the Gielgud Theatre where it is running until April 14.

Co-produced with Fiery Angel and Stage Entertainment UK, The Ladykillers also received nominations Best Set Design for Michael Taylor’s stunning revolving, two story set and Best Sound Design by Ben and Max Ringham. 

Liverpool Everyman and Playhouse Artistic Director Gemma Bodinetz said: “We are all so thrilled.” 

It is the second successive year an Everyman and Playhouse production has been nominated for Olivier Awards following two nominations for Ghost Stories in 2011. 

The winners will be announced at the Olivier Awards ceremony at London’s Royal Opera House on Sunday 15 April.
