Radio 2 DJ Janice Long is to host the main stage at Albert Dock's new folk festival over the August Bank Holiday weekend.
Billed as "an exuberant celebration of live acoustic folk, sea shanty and roots music", Folk On The Dock is part of the Albert Dock Liverpool 175 celebration.
The line-up includes The Christians, Henry Priestman, The Lost Brothers, Blair Dunlop, Laura J Martin, Gilmore & Roberts, Alasdair Roberts Trio, Tom Kitching, John Loomes, Merry Hell, Winter Wilson, ex-Bellowhead member Benji Kirkpatrick, and Sam Winston.
Liverpool-born broadcaster Janice Long, whose career began on BBC Radio Merseyside, was the first female presenter of Top of the Pops and is renowned for promoting new talent, giving the likes of Amy Winehouse, The Smiths, Primal Scream, Frankie Goes to Hollywood and Adele their first big breaks.
Clare Rawlinson, marketing manager, Albert Dock Liverpool, said: “Having a host of Janice’s calibre is a real coup for the event and for Liverpool. Janice is another success story in Liverpool’s rich musical heritage, and her passion and dedication for discovering and promoting new talent fits in perfectly with the essence of the event. Her knowledge of music, old and new, is encyclopedic and audiences just love her.
Folk Festival on the Dock is a free event, with ticketed elements to the programme.
