THERE aren't many like him left.

Tony Bennett, Grammy winning crooner of legend, from a time when That Old Black Magic really really did put people under its spell, is coming to Liverpool this summer.

He will play a one-nighter at the Liverpool Empire on June 27.

With worldwide record sales in the millions, and dozens of platinum and gold albums to his credit, Tony Bennett's career has spanned 60 years.

He does modern too, having recorded an album of duets with the likes of Lady Gaga, Mariah Carey and another jazz great, Amy Winehouse, last year. It topped the Billboard 200 last September, making him, at 85, the oldest living artist to have a Number One album in America.

Classics

His signature tunes, such as Steppin’ Out With My Baby and I Left My Heart In San Francisco, are woven into the fabric of American music culture.

Tony Bennett is one of only a handful of artists to have new albums charting in the 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s and 10s. He introduced a multitude of songs into the great American Songbook that have since become pop music classics.

He is also a talented visual artist and yet is not the only celebrity painter with past chart success coming to Liverpool in a big way this summer. Can you tell who it is yet?

*Tony Bennett, Liverpool Empire Theatre, Wednesday June 27, 2012. Tickets £45, £55, £65, go on general sale this Friday (March 12) with 02 priority booking from this Wednesday (March 10).
