The British steakhouse and cocktail brand will open in the business district

Well sourced steak and attention to detail have earned the Hawksmoor brand a top reputation on the food and booze scene. “The best steakhouse in the North,” wrote Manchester Confidential on Deansgate, the first Hawksmoor steakhouse outside of London.

We’ve found a beautiful, listed building in such a great location. It’s an amazing site, we're really excited to do it justice.

“Confidence oozes out of every pore of Hawksmoor - this is powerhouse food, delivered by a kitchen with its chin out and its shoulders back,” said Gordo in his review. Blimey, it must be good.

Best of British

Fresh from opening “the hottest steakhouse in New York” last year and ranking number one in the “World’s Best Steak Restaurants” list, Hawksmoor has now announced plans to open in Liverpool later this year. Famous for their charcoal grilled, 35-day dry aged steaks, award-winning cocktails, and spectacular interiors, Hawksmoor Liverpool will open in the Grade II-listed India Buildings, on the corner of Brunswick Street and Fenwick Street.

The Hawksmoor brand is serious about meat. There's a cute story on the website:

“Before trying to open Britain’s best steak restaurant we travelled the world in search of the perfect steak, from Kobe in Japan to Argentina’s Pampas by way of Italy, Australia and Texas. And our verdict? That the best steaks come from carefully reared native cattle breeds right here in Britain.”

The Hawksmoor menu

What to order at Hawksmoor? Steak, duh. It's what it's known for and it's where it excels. But if you go straight to steak every time you eat there, you're only getting half the picture. The same principles Hawksmoor applies to its beef – the best produce, cooked simply but cooked right – it applies to its non-beefy dishes too.

Choose from huge sharing cuts such as T-bone, porterhouse and prime rib, with solo steaks available if you’re not into sharing. Starters such as caesar salad with airy Doddington shavings, or sticky, rare breed Old Spot belly ribs are meals in themselves.

Seafood is another strength. Ethically sourced scallops bathed in white port and garlic butter. Or try the UK-sourced monkfish, grilled over charcoal. Side orders such as triple-cooked chips, creamed spinach, anchovy hollandaise and bone marrow gravy are reason enough to visit.

Drinks take in classic cocktails, highballs and fizzes. Meanwhile the wine list is packed with intriguing, accessible wines.

The Hawksmoor story

In 2006, two childhood friends, Will Beckett and Huw Gott opened a restaurant serving steaks from traditionally-reared cattle and sustainably sourced seafood, alongside old school cocktails in a then unfashionable part of London. Since then, Hawksmoor has grown to include seven restaurants in London, one in Manchester, one in Edinburgh and one in New York.

Will and Huw’s obsession with flavour and ethics has led them to collaborate with and highlight individuals and companies who share their beliefs, from Brixham fishermen to One Water, as well as the restaurant being given the highest rating for sustainability by the Sustainable Restaurant Association.

Hawksmoor Liverpool

Co-founder Will Beckett said that the pair have spent lots of time in Liverpool over the years.

“It’s one of the most exciting and dynamic cities in the country,” said Will.

“We’ve found a beautiful, listed building in such a great location. It’s an amazing site, we're really excited to do it justice by building something really special.

“We have made lots of friends in Liverpool, many who run and own some of the fantastic independent bars and restaurants that make Liverpool tick, and have been such a key part of the reputation Liverpool has developed in the last few years.

“We’ve been talking to them for a long time about how we can build a restaurant that would really fit into this city.”

Hawksmoor will open in Liverpool later this year. For more information visit the Hawksmoor website.
