IT'S the new restaurant everybody's buzzing about and, to celebrate a monster of an opening week in Liverpool, Busaba Eathai threw a launch party to officially say hello.

The first five days saw thousands through the doors to sample the food, with actual queues outside the Hanover Street venue last Monday. But the night time ice was officially broken on Friday, helped along by a Coconut Collins or two.

Hundreds of partygoers turned out for drinkies, candyfloss, canapes and a tuk-tuk photo booth at the city's latest temple of Thai, which started life in Soho and became a favourite across London.

The day, however, had dawned with rather more ethereal event - a blessing of the building which saw a group of Buddhist monks performing an incense infused ritual of goodwill, harmony and chimes - as they do whenever and wherever a Busaba Eathai opens.

Special credit goes to them and, back on the night, to the 50+ team in Liverpool who worked their rocks off a) behind the bar (always a baptism of fire when this crowd turn up); b) on the floor and c) in the kitchen turning out treats. By 10.30 it was all over, the team whisked off into the night to let their hair down at Red Door.

It all went rather swimmingly, in more ways than one.

Mostly everyone in our gallery here is smiling. The gods, undoubtedly, were too - but they don't do pictures.
