More than 50 Liverpool restaurants are offering Rishi Sunak's August dine-out discount
LET’s start by getting it out of the way. Yes, ok, 'eat out to help out' sounds a bit like the Government are talking about cunnilingus. Have you finished giggling like a school kid now? Right, let's get on with it.
Sunak’s (so-called) 50% discount vouchers - see feature box below for the details - come into play in August. They are designed to encourage diners back into restaurants and God knows they need your custom right now.
Discount or no discount, don’t be a no show and do be nice and tip the staff
The scheme is not without controversy. Some restaurants argue that it is not financially viable for them to open seven days in order to offer early week dining at the moment. However, encouraging Monday-Wednesday visits could help social distancing by spreading custom out across the week. It is by no means the answer to the hospitality industry’s prayers - nor is it as good for the diner as other less restrictive vouchers - just putting this out there - a discount is a discount and if it helps out your local restaurant in some small way then that’s a win.
If you are taking advantage of this offer and can afford to spend a bit more - especially on booze, where many restaurants make the bulk of their money - you will really be making a difference. Discount or no discount, don’t be a no show and do be nice and consider tipping the staff, it’s been a really shit year for them.
