Good news for lovers of the lido, lagoons and lakes
LIVERPOOL has once again got a direct flight to Venice after easyJet announced it is taking up the mantle later this year.
It’s good news for those wishing to visit the popular, family-friendly Italian lakes and Lido de Jeselo resorts of Italy; those who have been deprived of a direct link to the area since Ryanair pulled its flight to Treviso airport, ooh, donkeys' years ago in 2010.
Holidaymakers will have to wait a bit longer for summer fun, however: the route, to Marco Polo airport, only starts on October 31, which, conversely, is a great time to avoid the hordes and enjoy the warm, fading light of this most enchanting of cities.
Nevertheless, when it gets going it will operate twice weekly (Tuesdays and Saturdays) all year round. Flights go sale today, with easyJet expecting to fly 30,000 passengers a year to and from the historic city.
Venice becomes the seventh Italian destination to be served from Liverpool, with flights operated by a number of airlines already on sale to Bari, Milan Bergamo, Milan Malpensa, Naples, Pisa and Rome.
Ali Gayward, country manager at easyJet said, “Being one of the most romantic and magical places in the world, Venice often tops people’s list of places to visit at least once in their life. It’s also a strong European economic hub and we expect to see plenty of support from the business community on the route.”
