RUN or Dye, “the world’s most colourful 5k event”, makes a splash in Aintree racecourse this Saturday.
Already, it is claimed, 2,500 people have signed up to be blasted with custom-coloured showers of safe, eco-friendly, plant-based cornstarch dye as they lap the laps more used to steeplechase gee-gees.
God knows why, although as the event is inspired by the ancient Hindu festival of Holi, perhaps that should be “Lord Krishna knows why”.
Run or Dye takes place in 150 cities around the world where thousands of participants line up in white running gear, tutus, or dressed head to toe in fancy dress ready to be turned into “a Technicolor canvas of fun”.
“Many people tell us is the most fun they’ve ever had exercising,” say organisers.
It takes all sorts, but if that sounds like you, sign up to run, on the website. Entries will also be available on the day with additional administrative fees. It costs almost £30 to enter but organisers say some of that will go to charidee.
Run or Dye, Aintree Racecourse, Liverpool 9. Saturday September 20. 11am. Tickets £27.99 team of four or £29.99 individuals. See uk.runordye.com
