Liverpool city centre stores are dangling a Christmas carrot of reindeers, movies and Titan the Robot to lure in shoppers as the big trolley dash 2012 gets under way.
So, For the next four Thursdays the BBC Big Screen in Clayton Square is to show festive classics for free - so get your thermals on (from that stall just by Wetherspoons).
City Central BID, which represents retailers in the city centre, has commissioned the films to entertain people as they go about their late night Christmas shopping.
Santa Claus, The Movie
The first cinematic instalment is 1985's Santa Claus, The Movie, starring Dudley Moore as the chief elf to Santa. It will be screened tomorrow (Thurs Nov 29) at 12.30pm and again at 4pm.
The films are part of a free package of festive entertainment to run across four ‘Super Thursdays’ to get shoppers in the Christmas spirit.
- Cairngorm Reindeers will be taking up residence in Queen Square from 4pm to 7pm tomorrow. It's a photo opp for the kids and you can leave a gift as part of the Mission Christmas campaign. The reindeers will be back for the following three Thursdays.
- Titan The Robot will be making a return after a two year gap, performing two half hour shows around Clayton Square at 5.30pm and 6.30pm. Titan will also be performing for the next four Thursdays.
- Tomorrow also sees the beginning of the 2nd week of programmed live music acts at the Liverpool Bandstand in Williamson Square which run from 12.30pm until 7pm on Thursdays and until 5pm Friday to Sunday. The Bandstand’s final show will be on Saturday, December 22.
Clayton Square Big ScreenAnd Metquarter is also hosting special Christmas events ever Thursday until December 20.
Ed Oliver, Chairman of City Central BID, said: ‘’Our businesses want to give everyone a memorable time when they are in Liverpool city centre."
He added: ‘’With film classics, live music, Titan, the reindeers and the Christmas market the city centre is going to be buzzing. If you love Christmas, you’ll love Liverpool.’’
But still no sign of Metal Mickey, some of you may sigh.
