AFTER exploding onto the Manchester dining scene in January, Busaba Eathai has taken the north by storm. March saw the popular Thai chain open in Liverpool with a traditional monk blessing, celebrating its Buddhist ethos.

So began a mesmeric chant, designed to wish the new establishment good fortune and prosperity

Swathed in vibrant orange robes, five monks - those who also performed the blessing during Busaba Manchester’s opening - came from their Mancunian temple to conduct the ceremony. Guests and senior staff, including Executive Chef Jude Sangsidaand, sat facing the holy quintet and a Buddha statue was gifted with flowers and candles.

So began a mesmeric chant, designed to wish the new establishment good fortune and prosperity. One monk then stood up to sprinkle holy water around the venue, before gifts of new robes and flowers were offered; additionally to food presented by Busaba staff.

The blessing incorporated Sookaj values, which focus on avoiding everyday distractions and creating a more peaceful reality within. A calm atmosphere prevailed - until the evening, when the launch party saw crowds descend for candyfloss, canapés and tuk tuks...
