The brand is bringing its specialty coffee and brunch offering to South Liverpool for the first time

Liverpool-born specialist coffee brand Bold Street Coffee has opened its newest location, bringing their offering to South Liverpool for the first time.

Located within The Matchworks, The Climbing Hangar is a family-friendly bouldering complex, with Bold Street Coffee opening inside the venue and welcoming climbers, families and visitors looking for high-quality coffee in a relaxed, community-focused environment.

Guests can expect Bold Street Coffee’s signature approach to quality and flavour, serving expertly brewed specialty coffee alongside a curated food offering, ideal for post-climb refuelling or casual catch-ups.

The coffee shop is open to all, meaning you don’t have to be climbing to enjoy a visit to the cafe, which is open 8am to 8pm Monday to Friday and 9am to 6pm on weekends.

Matt Farrell, co-founder of GSG Hospitality, said: “Opening Bold Street Coffee South Liverpool at The Climbing Hangar is a really exciting step for us. It’s a unique, family-friendly space with a strong sense of community, which aligns perfectly with what Bold Street Coffee is about. This opening also reflects an important period of growth for the brand, and we’re looking forward to building on that momentum throughout 2026 and beyond.”

Ged MacDomhnaill, Founder & CEO of The Climbing Hangar, said: “We are so pleased to be partnering with Bold Street Coffee, as our histories are deeply interwoven.

Both businesses were born and raised in Liverpool in 2010.  My journey into coffee started when Bold Street Coffee opened my tastebuds to what coffee could be and the bliss of letting time wash over you in their incredible space.

In Bold Street Coffee we created the Women’s Climbing Symposium, interviewed people, celebrated, recovered from celebrating, and had one legendary Christmas party there too when they did a critical crowdfund.  I even bought my first ever artwork from their local artist rotation.

I get a deep sense of pride of repaying the deep debt of gratitude I feel to Liverpool, my adopted home, for its people and their attitude and how that nurtured me and The Climbing Hangar.  I take real pride in putting as much of The Climbing Hangar’s purchasing, jobs, and network back into Liverpool and by partnering with Bold Street Coffee, we can continue that journey.

That’s the history, but what about now, imagine bringing that standard of food and drink into a climbing wall!  If you have been climbing for more than ten years, you know this is progress beyond imagination for the whole experience.

We can obsess about climbing, Bold Street Coffee can rock the café, and our customers will be the outright winners. Not to mention when I take my daughter to climbing class and we can get a killer breakfast afterwards!”
