Celebrated independent music venue Quarry is preparing to relocate from its Love Lane site

The venue will soon call 45 Hardman Street its new base – a site which is well known in the Liverpool music scene as the former home to iconic clubs like The Magnet and The Sink Club.

The move follows an announcement made on Instagram in November 2024, where Quarry shared that they’d be leaving Love Lane due to a planning permission application submitted by their landlord.

The application was later approved along with the sale of the land and the site is now set to be redeveloped into luxury apartments. Quarry’s team shared that this was ‘not a fight we could win.’ Progress with the area development plan has meant the venue has had to leave as soon as possible, prompting the relocation.

While the news came as disappointing, Quarry was not prepared to give up and stayed committed to their mission to support grassroots music and provide a creative community space. In a heartfelt joint statement, they declared: ‘We will keep putting on shows until being told otherwise.’

This commitment to the music scene has defined the venue since its opening in 2010, in response to a wave of closures of grassroots venues.

As of yesterday, the future is looking brighter for the Quarry, having officially announced its new location. The iconic venue will relocate to a more central location - a huge win at a time when so many grassroots venues have been closing. Set to open this August, the team at Quarry has promised to honour the rich legacy of Hardman Street while bringing something new to the space.

Quarry took to their Instagram to share the following message: ‘We recognise this iconic site is steeped in history. We aim to acknowledge what has come before it while also adding something new,’

The new 250-capacity venue will feature high-quality sound systems, but with a community-focused, grassroots ethos, reaffirming, ‘this is a grassroots project through and through.’

The last venue to reside in 45 Hardman Street was Hot Water Comedy Club, who made sure to preserve a lot of the many original features from The Magnet. Quarry is expected to retain some of these features.

Renovations are currently underway and fans can stay up to date with developments via their Instagram page

If you would like to support the team at Quarry and their upcoming journey, donations are welcome and can be made here.
