Here’s to pork knuckle, artisan schnapps and twenty beers on tap
It’s going to be Oktoberfest all year round in Liverpool soon, thanks to a new Bavarian-themed 'bier halle and 'cook haus' from the team behind Manchester's Albert's Schloss, Gorilla and Rudy's Neapolitan Pizza - which has a branch on Castle Street.
Albert’s Schenke, is due to open in the Casartelli Building on Hanover Street this summer, taking over from Hub Alehouse. It is the latest opening from Mission Mars, the team behind a string of award-winning food and drink venues including pubs such as The Viking in West Kirby (reviewed here),The Elephant, and Liberty Tavern in Woolton (reviewed here).
Look out for 'rugged and rustic dishes' such as Sformato, a baked truffled mashed potato with melting nuggets of Alpine cheese.
Albert’s Schenke (which means a pub or a tavern with a bar) is named after Prince Albert, the Anglo-Bavarian prince and husband of Queen Victoria. It will stock an extensive range of bier, available by the schooner, pint, and in bier flights. The Bier Halle will offer over twenty biers on tap, including Munich and Bohemian pilsners, weiss biers and limited-edition Oktoberfest special editions. If you’re having trouble choosing, you can take a tour of the taps via a range of bier flights.
The German beers will be served alongside beers from local craft breweries, small batches and daily-changing kegs. Premium G&Ts, cocktails, magnums of Prosecco and artisan schnapps will also be on the list.
Food-wise, the menu in the 170-cover venue will be 'a distinctly modern take on classic dishes served across Alpine Europe'. The cook haus menu includes a Raclette burger with melting Swiss cheese, and a classic Black Forest ham, egg and chips.
Expect 'rugged and rustic dishes' such as Sformato, a baked truffled mashed potato with melting nuggets of Alpine cheese, and Bavarian classics such as Schweinshaxe (pork knuckle), haus kebabs, schnitzels and sausage.
After its transformation, the upmarket interiors will be styled as 'Bier Halle luxe', defined by reclaimed wood and roaring fires that complement the Grade II-listed building’s original features.
If the hugely popular Albert's Schloss in Manchester is anything to go by, this new venue is expected to be an immediate hit.
